Main Street Presents: A Winter Market
By Darci Reynolds, Executive Director – Main Street Wilmington

Small business is everything to a small town. It’s one of the most obvious features a town can possess, adding character, dimension and personality.
That’s why Main Street Wilmington is hosting our first ever Winter Market to help boost local retail. Our businesses need every one of us to “think small” during this holiday shopping season. 2020 is a make or break moment for small business everywhere and Wilmington is no exception.

The Market is a one-day shopping opportunity to visit the stores you go to all year long plus visit some vendors you have never heard of. These folks are creators and makers who usually spend every weekend traveling Ohio to sell their wares and share their one of kind creations –– except in 2020 of course. So this Saturday – November 21st –is our day as a community, to support our stores and area artisans in a tangible way. If you want something truly unique, something that can’t be replicated at Walmart, shop downtown. Not to knock Walmart of course, but they will probably still turn a profit this year with a few less purchases from you. Our local businesses don’t have those kinds of margins and safety nets.

In the midst of so much “shut down” talk, our downtown is open and eager. The Murphy Theatre is opening its doors for the first time since March. Even though there won’t be a show, the lights will be on and everyone is welcome to re-connect with our old friend, the Murphy. In addition to gift-buying in the lobby, you will be able to observe the theatre’s improvements and while catching a glimpse of its bright and beautiful future.

Is it difficult to shop safely ? Not really. You can do it — because you must. Wear your mask and keep your distance during this once in a lifetime circumstance.

Spend your Saturday downtown. Shop, eat and cherish the place you call home.

Darci Reynolds

Originally from Newark Ohio, Darci Reynolds, moved to Wilmington six years ago with her husband and native son, Brad.
“Joining Main Street in 2016 as Co-Director, the work has been unique way to become immersed in the community on many different levels. After spending the last few decades working in communications, writing and not-for-profit marketing, Main Street was a challenge I welcomed.”
When not working (haha!), Darci enjoys time with her husband and the best dog ever, Charley. They also have five adult children and four little grand-babies that keep her otherwise occupied.
