In the spirit of those popular underground, behind the false wall, prohibition-era jazz clubs, The Murphy Theatre brings you Charlie’s “Cut-a-Rug” Club.
On four occasions throughout the year (if not more,) Charlie’s and our Murphy Theatre lobby will be transformed into a speakeasy, with a live jazz band, singing, dancing, cavorting, complimentary Hors D’oeuvres, and a flowing full cash bar.

How do I get in the “Cut-a-Rug” Club?
Not just any yahoo can get in. If your Murphy Membership is at the Stage Manager level ($250.00) or greater, you’re in automatically, provided you know the secret password that weekend (you’ll find that word listed near the image of young Charlie’s feet in our window), you're age 21+, AND you have a ten spot that will be donated to a different local charity every time we “Cut-A-Rug”.
How will I know which evening the “Cut-a-Rug” Clubs will take place?
It will never be announced publicly.
Sometimes it will be the same night following one of our concerts, sometimes it’ll be a night where we have nothing else planned. The Murphy Theatre is the proud owner of a cardboard cut-out of our dear founder, Charlie Murphy in his youth. When you see young Charlie on display in one of our windows during the week, that is an indication that we will be jazzing it up that coming weekend.
A white corsage on his lapel indicates 10:30 that coming Friday night, and a red corsage indicates 10:30 that coming Saturday night.
Last drink is poured at 12:55 am, but the dancing and fun continues until the cows come home, and the last dance, the slow one…plays at 1:30.
How do we know which charity we’re contributing to?
Look near the feet of young Charlie in the window, and a charity will be listed that will benefit from the upcoming Cut-A-Rug Club.
Can I bring a friend who is not a member or whose membership is not at the Stage Manager Level?
Yes you can, but they have to be with you, age 21+, and it’ll cost them $37.14 to get in. $17.14 of that goes to us and $20 goes to the featured charity that week. That sounds fair enough don’t you think?
